Survey: 92 Percent Concerned About Internet Connected Devices

According to a recent survey conducted by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), the association of IT security, assurance, governance, and risk professionals shows that 92% of consumers have concerns regarding information collected by Internet-connected devices an article published on the Baseline website.

The article reviews how the term "Internet of Things" (IoT) refers to machines, devices, sensors, and other connected items connected to the internet and often to each other.

According to new research from ISACA and information quoted in this article, internet-connected devices play a prominent role in the business and daily life of consumers, which causes them to feel conflicted regarding privacy, security, and matters of convenience.

The article exposes some interesting statistics:

  • Ninety percent of those surveyed are concerned that their online information will be stolen.
  • Fifty-one percent use the same two to three passwords across multiple sites.
  • Forty percent write down their passwords to remember them.
  • Half of the consumers don't feel they have control over how Websites use their information.
  • Twenty-five percent of respondents have not checked the privacy settings on their social network profiles in the past six months.
