Account Types

With Virtualmin being a free and open-source control panel, you might expect it to lack features or overall usability. That is not the case, and Virtualmin offers much of the same (or better) functionality and features as other control panels. One aspect where this is clearly evident is the account types that are offered in Virtualmin. Let's take a look at the different account types that Virtualmin offers so that you can have a better idea of just how versatile Virtualmin really is. This article implies that you have already installed Virtualmin. If you have not done so yet, please look at the following article: How to install Virtualmin (CentOS 7).

Account Types

There are four types of accounts in Virtualmin, each with its own specific purpose or set of limitations. These limitations are typically in place as a means of privilege separation. Each type of account is listed below for your convenience.

Reseller – This account type has the ability to create Virtual Servers for other users and is a feature only available in Virtualmin Pro at this time

Mail/FTP Users – These users are associated with a specific Virtual Server and typically only have access to Email, FTP, or both. This type of user can be created by a Virtual Server owner, Master Administrator, or a Reseller account.

Virtual Server Owner – The administrative user of a specific Virtual Server, including its Sub-Servers and Aliases. This user can be created by both a Master Administrator and a Reseller account.

Master Administrator – This is the root user of the server as a whole and can manage all aspects of the server and any account associated with the server

The separation of privileges for each account can ensure that you always have the right account for the job!

Virtualmin's own information and documentation can be found on their website here.
